How to Plan a Costa Rica Trip: What to Know + How I’d Do It
Costa Rica is one of the few places I’ve been where I immediately thought, I could live here.
There’s a reason the Nicoya Peninsula on the west cost is a Blue Zone… life feels slower, more balanced, and genuinely centered around well-being.
What surprised me most, though, was how quickly I felt the difference. Within a day, I felt more energized, less bloated, and overall just… better. The food is incredibly fresh, simple, and locally sourced in a way that’s hard to replicate at home.
It’s one of those destinations that doesn’t just feel good to visit - it feels good to be in.
What Makes Costa Rica So Special
What I loved most was the contrast.
One part of the trip felt completely immersed in nature—lush, quiet, and a little removed from everything. The other felt relaxed and coastal, with a slower, beach-driven pace.
That shift is what makes Costa Rica stand out. You’re not just going to one place—you’re experiencing two completely different versions of it in a single trip.
What to Know Before You Go
Costa Rica isn’t a “stay in one place” destination.
On a map, everything can look close. In reality, getting from one area to another takes time and how you plan those transitions really impacts the overall experience.
This is usually where I see people get stuck. The right combination of locations and the right pacing makes all the difference.
How I’d Plan It
For most trips, I recommend splitting time between two regions:
Jungle / Arenal area
For nature, excursions, and a more immersive feel
Pacific Coast (beach)
For slower mornings, good food, and time to actually relax
A typical split looks like:
3–4 nights in the jungle
3–4 nights at the beach
This gives you the full experience without feeling rushed or over-scheduled.
Costa Rica works especially well for:
Honeymoons / Couples trips
Clients who want a mix of activity and downtime
Multi-gen families looking for a trip that feels enjoyable for all ages
If you’re starting to plan your Costa Rican adventure and aren’t sure how to structure it, I’m always happy to help you think through what makes the most sense!
Warmly,
